Inbox overflowing with spam lately. What to do?
There used to always be a trickle of spam in my inbox despite my using SpamGuard Plus (and Image Blocking.) But lately there's a flood. Are Yahoo's filters failing? Is there something I myself can do about it? It's taking so much time to mark them all as spam, again, and again, and again. I despair. If I discontinue my (paid) subscription to Plus and set up another Yahoo account will I be doing myself a disservice? I'm mostly talking about what it's going to take to transfer all the stuff I want to a new account now that storage size limitations are no longer a factor. In reference to maowbro's item 2, I emptied the Bulk folder first, then marked a spam item in my Inbox as Spam, then checked the Bulk folder. The item had not been moved there then, nor later after I clicked Check Mail. I wish I could choose both maowbro's (most comprehensive) and Jason F's (most specific) as Best Answers. That said, neither helped me, personally, much. I find myself at so many computers (and OS's) so often that doing something involving a local mail client would be counter-productive at best. I did, however, find that my Blocked Addresses list was full-all 500 entries used up. I've cleared it once before (and did so now again) but don't remember/know if that helps. I do think the Plus! subscription should allow for a longer list than 500.

According to the anti-spam experts, we are seeing far more spam mails now than ever before. And the spammers are becoming more clever about getting past the spam filters. That's why more spam is making it to the Inbox instead of going straight to the Bulk/Spam folder, and why some of your good mails are ending up in the Bulk/Spam folder. There are a few basic things we can all do to keep spam to a minimum. 1. Spam mails that go straight to the Bulk/Spam folder should be left there, unopened. You can empty that folder any time you want, but never NEVER open spam mails. DON'T try to unsubscribe from anything and DON'T click any links in those mails. 2. Spam mails that land in your Inbox should be marked as Spam so that they are moved to the Bulk/Spam folder and their addresses placed on the Blocked list. (Blocking an address prevents mails from being received from that address in the future.) 3. Any email that you are the least bit suspicious about should be deleted immediately. Don't let curiosity get the better of you. Simply opening a spam email out of curiosity could alert the spammers that you have an active email address (they probably didn't know it before), to which they will undoubtedly send TONS of spam mail in the future. Open emails ONLY from those you know and trust.
